[a/s] Re: Parquet weight

Finally a topic that I can contribute some direct experience on. I am a wood
flooring distributor in Western Canada and former carpet & vinyl & wood
flooring installer.

Wood parquet will weigh about 1.25 lbs. / sq. ft (5/16" thick). An
elastomeric (flexible when dry) adhesive like Franklin 711 will prevent
popping of tiles if there is flex in the subfloor.

Engineered wood floors give you a strip floor look at a weight similar to
parquet (if 3/8" thick) and can also be glued down.

If  you choose a wood floor try to find a prefinished one with Aluminum
Oxide finish as they are very resistant to abrasive wear.

Vinyl flooring is probably the lightest option weight wise but requires a
very smooth subfloor with filled joints or they will "telegraph" through.

Floating floors such as Pergo are about 2lbs per sq. ft and very scratch
resistant but cannot be recoated with urethane like the parquet in the
future. They also tend to have a hollow sound if you walk on them with hard
shoes.
