[a/s] Draining fresh water tank on '91 Airstreams
Jerry Flanders:
On our '91 25 foot Airstream the main drain is located on the bottom of
the fresh water tank ahead of the small valve on the side of the tank.
On the bottom corner of the tank, find a metal rectangle attached to the
larger tank panel with four screws. Under this panel is a plastic drain
plug with a recessed octogonal opening that will accept the 3/4 inch
bolt head of a 5" or 6" long bolt 1/2" in diameter. Insert the bolt
head into the corresponding hole in the drain plug and screw it out with
vice grips secured to the threaded end of the bolt. This will give you
complete drainage of the tank and allow for better sanitizing because
all the water can be removed. To reinstall after cleaning the tank,
coat the threads of the plastic drain plug with "plumbers' putty" and
tighten. Do not over tighten. Leave the lower plate off until you have
refilled the tank and made sure that it is not leaking. Then replace
the cover plate and keep the bolt with your trailer tools.
