I have known people who took an Airstream from Texas to Memphis without
brakes.  Not bright.  With any used trailer, one of the first orders of
business is to check each wheel.  Check the brake lining, the drum and
the magnet.  Magnets burn out or wear out and need replaced when they are
an open circuit or alternately start to grab.  Repack the bearings, use a
new cotter key and remember that the wheel nut goes up snug and then is
backed off an eighth to a quarter turn.  

With a charged battery, pulling the plug on the trailer disconnect should
lock all four brakes.  Un-plug it for only a short time or you will burn
out the magnets testing it.  Lyall
