[a/s] Gas engine towing mileage

With the right combination it is possible to get pretty good mileage towing
with a gas engine, especially when towing an Airstream.

Example:
I own a 99 19' Bambi, weighs 4200 lbs. loaded. I tow it with a Chevrolet
Silverado pickup with the 5.3 liter V8, 4-speed automatic, and 3.73 gears.
On a recent 2,600 miles trip through CA, NV, AZ, UT, & CO I averaged 13.9
mpg. My best tank was 16.5 (YES-towing) and my worst 12.5. I'm reasonably
certain I could tow a 25' Safari and average about 1-1.5 mpg less.

FWIW, this is BETTER mileage than a Ford Ranger Supercab with a 4.0 liter V6
got towing the same trailer.
