I just went out and played with the upper arms... The rafter arm locks at
the short length that causes the arm to pull on the connection point where
it hooks into the lower arm as the awning is extended... If the lock is not
released, the strain will bend the attachment point and eventually the lower
arm....   I still think the "rafter arms" should be disconnected before
extending the awning to prevent this....

I took the arm rafter arm apart and there is a series of teeth at the end of
the arm that will provide lock points when the arm is extended...

I agree that when you are closing the awning, the rafter arm can be moved to
the stud on the outer arm before rolling the awning back up, because at this
extension the rafter arm can slide shorter as required....

Be sure and contact ZipDee for a full copy of the manual .(and the parts
list if you need replacement items...)...

I will send the Kinko file shortly....
