I was going to suggest that (leave cap on, open valve) but with the tank flushed
out as well as I could beforehand (to make the subsequent cleaning job a little
less unappetizing) and yes, a dose of digester in the water.  Let soak for a few
days, dump, use the toilet brush while clean water is flowing through, maybe
repeat the whole procedure a time or two ...

I don't think you should have any trouble reaching the 3 inch blackwater dump
valve with a toilet brush, at least you wouldn't on my motor home.  The 1 1/2
inch valve for the grey water dump is another story, it is much farther away
from the opening and in my system there are two 90 degree elbows between!  If
necessary you could attach some kind of extension handle onto a toilet brush ... 

I would want to have it clean and tested before going on the road ... you don't
want a gush of nice brown stuff all over your feet while you are connecting up
in your first campground stop and a dozen people are watching ...
