I certainly wouldn't be afraid of the 289.  I have the same motor in my 1961
F-600 grain truck.  It holds about 280 bushels of wheat and when the truck is
loaded it weighs in around 27000 lbs.  The real difference, of course, is going
to be the gearing.
BTW, it's the low mileage vehicle of the household.  Under 43000 miles.
