Re: [a/s] A/C Question on 75 Argosy
If the A/C unit is from 1975 the compressor might be rusted out by now.
I just replaced one on a 1972 due to rust out on the compressor housing.
I did not know it had a pin hole in it until I bought a thirty pound
bottle of R-22! Oh well, the new one uses R-22 as well and I might need
it someday.(not likely)
I bought a Coleman Mach 3(?) Plus for around $500 and it works great
(you could hang meat in here now!).
I had no problem putting it on myself and saving the labor charge.
I am still young and would not recommend doing by yourself due to the
weight unless you can bench-press around two hundred!
I don't know what that mechanic meant by Airstream specific A/C units.
This Coleman fit my roof fine and darn sure did not cost $800.
That sounds like a labor charge to me and if so either I am REAL
old-fashioned or he is a bit high.(a bit...right!)
