Re: [a/s] roadside treats!!!
Hunter, Tom and others-
When we were wintering at Saltin Sea, Ca. a couple
years ago, we saw a 1995 or 1996, 35 foot Silver
Streak in Indio, Ca. (YES IN REAL LIFE!!!) (looked
just like the 1995 brochure!) They had pulled off the
main drag, and were walking their dog. Wow!!! I almost
totaled the truck, rubber-necking. It was beautiful!
We should have stopped and talked to the lady, but
didn't want to impose on her. To my knowledge they
only made perhaps 20 to 30 of the new redesigned
ones??? When I talked to the factory last, in 1996,
they told me they were custom building about 1 a
month! Wish I knew for sure how many were actually
produced. Either way, I would have loved to have had
one of the new aluminum clad 5th wheels which they
made till the end in 1996 or 1997. The best thing
about the later Silver Streaks is that they were
newer, but made to the same "fine quality" as the
older ones. One of the guys I conversed with at the
factory said he had been working on them for 40 years!
Avion is the other last company to make aluminum
5th wheels...I think! Also beautiful rigs. We saw a 38
or 40?? foot Aluminum clad, Avion 5th wheel, on the
Oregon Coast in Tillamook Oregon, a few years back,
for sale, but rather tired and damp looking inside. I
have always wanted a (199... something) aluminum 35
foot or more 5th wheel, Silver Streak, someday...very
unlikely find indeed, I bet!
Does anyone have one out there, in Airstream land???
Did Airstream ever make one???
Do we have any Avion folks in our audience, are they
good rigs??
Arizona Silver Streaker.....
