John, you hit the "nail on the head". For some years electric, hybrid, gas
and other alternative vehicles had been an interest to me. I was told that
the gas companies vigorously opposed the prejudices that you commented on.
It became clear to me that a huge lobbying effort by the oil companies
succeeded against any and all other competition. It was the auto/oil
industries that lobbied for the removal of trolley car and other forms of
mass transportation systems in cities throughout the U.S. I specifically
recall them referring to the sign laws stating "powered by compressed gas"
on vehicles. It gave the impression of "a dangerous compressed gas".
