I believe that when one uses Walbernize  you should always follow the 
grain of the metal thus you avoid creating scratches.  I believe that 
means wiping in one direction only and no circular or back and forth 
movements.  If you look closely on the  non vintage  trailers the grain 
of the aluminum is evident and usually all runs same direction except the 
end caps which I believe follows the contour of the curve.
