Hi, Don....

The red light that comes on when the switch is turned on indicates that the 
"power boost" for the regular rooftop antenna is on.  These are pretty 
standard with Winegard Antennas although they may be an option.

The screw on type of cable attachment does not require any additional boost 
because the cable system has inline amplifers all along its wiring to provide 
ample signal to provide good cable reception on any TV...that is why there is 
no little red light in your home when you are using cable for your TV 
reception.

The only time you need to use the "power boost" switch is when you are using 
your rooftop antenna for reception.

...or at least that is the way it works in my A/S, but as we all know, there 
are just a few variances even in identical trailers.. :)
