Well Don, I'm not an expert on antennas and cable, but
I'll troubleshoot a little with ya.

It sounds like both locations (original TV and electric
hose compartment) are the same singular, threaded round
with a pinhole in the middle, 75ohm connection.
Apparently your outside antenna connects into the
electrical box and there should be a cable running from
the box to your interior 75ohm plate/receptacle.

Your reception is concentrated from the actual antenna
outside your trailer (if you actually have one out
there).  The cable and outlets and TV contribute very
little in the way of reception.

Things to verify:

Is the antenna wired properly outside to the receptacle?
If the antenna is relatively old, it may have a "forked"
itto threaded-round adapter for the cable to connect to
the antenna.

Is there lots of corrosion/rust?  Fresh new connections
are best.

Are there any breaks in the cable?  Are you careful to
thread the cable into the receptacle so the center pin
goes in the center pinhole?

Connected secure to tv antenna input?

Basically from here your picture quality depends on:
distance from broadcasting stations
strength of signal
tv set to "antenna/stdandard/tv" if there is a switch in
the back or your tv is programmable to switch between
antenna/cable/dss.

This is what I would check for....

I was using a multiple dipole type antenna and had to
adjust it all the time.  I got pretty good reception,
but adjusting for each station was a pain.
I went to radio shack and decided to try an
omnidirectional amplified antenna (from checking out the
website possiblities)
They had the model in stock no. 15-1624 Long range
amplified omnidirectional tv antenna.
this antenna uses a little power and the antenna dish is
smaller than my previous one--only 21 inches diameter.

I was VERY impressed with the improvement in picture
quality and range of "pull"  I don't have to adjust the
direction as much.  I know it amplifies better in the
audio too because the captioning comes in much clearer
on more stations with fewer "gobbledygook" words
displayed.  Well worth the $70 or so that I paid.  I
thought I would have to use it inconjuction with my old
antenna, but it does the best work all on its own.
