Welcome to the List. I have driven a number of motor homes and
restored two AS's and am in the process of restoring another at
the present time. I am not going to respond to your post point by
point, but just an opinion or two that may be helpful to you in
your initial thinking.

The first is the issue of MH vs trailer. Most everybody on this
list pulls a trailer, so they will have a different opinion from
me. We started with AS trailers in the early 70's, went to MH
until recently and decided to go back to a motor home. It if
strictly a personal decision depending on how you use it. If we
were full timing or just took exceptionally long trips with long
stays, I would prefer the trailer. For us, we do lots of short
trips (albeit more miles per day) and enjoy the convenience of a
generator and air conditioner for our dog when we want to leave
her and don't have shore power. I am also more relaxed, driving
the MH instead of pulling a trailer. Personal choices.

The classic AS MH is built on a P30 chassis. The P30 has nice
driving and riding characteristics.  Also, I prefer the advantage
of the fuel effeciency and stability of the aerodynamic design of
the AS. The down side is that AS MH's have very little storage
space. Also they have the most problematic skin maintenance of
any RV. You may prefer the AS shiny skin, but Avion's anodized
skin has never given them the trouble of an AS skin. My
Grandmother used to say, "pretty is as pretty does."

I looked at a lot of MH's when I made my last move. Now listen to
this
Akunthita, I made three trips (flying-off frequent flyer miles)
and found the most motor homes and more importantly, the best
condx MH's in Phoenix and around. Acres of diamonds right there
in your own back yard. So, if you are really intent on a MH, go
out to Mesa and spend two or three days. The dealer here doing
body work for me is convinced that there is less corrosion on
this body than any he has seen. That MH spent its whole life in
Arizona.
