I agree with you totally about checking the gauges.... but in the case of the 
taillight indicator, the light in the indicator actually comes from the 
taillight..so if it is showing your taillights are working, they really are.. 
 However, when the the fiberoptic cable gets dirty, the taillights can be 
working, but it will not show in the indicator...
