Hi Douglas,

This list certainly is active.  Like you, when we were still potential
owners, we subscribed to the list and asked questions about the Airstreams
as we looked at them.  The members quickly answered our questions about what
we found and told us how to inspect a used unit.  In fact, Donald Kribbs has
a very good checklist which we referred to each time.  After about 6 months
we found our Dream Stream, a 1983 31' Excella,  and because we showed
sufficient knowledge when we spoke to the buyers concerning the necessary
repairs, they lowered the price considerably.  Since we knew what to look
for, even though the buyer wouldn't disclose problems, they knew they
couldn't expect to get the higher than blue book price they were asking.
And we haven't been disappointed, we knew what we would have to repair and
replace when we bought it.  Except for a basketball sized dent on the roof,
which we did not discover until we were on a trip and happened to be
standing at  the right angle and level to see it.  So checking the roof
would have been wise.
Of course we looked at several whose owners were incensed when we pointed
out rear sag, or condensation between window panes or dents which would be
expensive to repair.
The listies have much experience to offer and no question is considered too
insignificant to answer.
