The best and easiest way to add a cutout switch is to go to a electronics store and
pick up the same switch that is used in alarm or remote start units. It's a simple
spring loaded switch the same as you would find in your car to turn the light on
when you open the door , but instead of adding a ground when the door is opened as
in your car you get one that breaks the ground when it's released. Then it's just a
matter of cutting the ground which goes to your furnaces relay and wiring it through
the door switch. The great part about this fix is your using a ground signal instead
of a hot so if you get a damaged wire you don't have to worry about a short. Also it
would be a good Idea to wire in a toggle switch and locate it in a easy access area
,just attach one wire from the toggle switch to the ground wire going to the relay
and the other to a ground inside the furnace cabinet. this will give you an override
switch in the event you have a problem with your door switch it would be handy for
trouble shooting (if the furnace doesn't fire you can eliminate the door switch by
closing the toggle switch ) or doing maintenance checks.
