After the top of the faucet is off, you should see a nut. It has to come
off. The retainer clip is horseshoe-shaped, and a little ear sticks up that
you pry gently on...it has been awhile. Once the clip and nut are off, the
cartridge can still be hard to pull out. That is why I recommend screwing
the handle screw back in to pull on. BTW, the handle (lever) should also be
off.). try jiggling things around a little when you are removing the
horseshoe clip. Try to remember where the flat spot on the cartridge stem
is, too, to make things easier going back together.
