Burt, are you referring to the crank itself as being stripped of its
threads?  the 
plastic crank?  They can be replaced with
the smaller mobile home window crank.
If it is only one vent, I would take this
opportunity to replace the whole thing with
the Fantastic Vent Fan Deluxe (i.e., with
rain sensor).  We have had one added to
every Airstream we have owned since 
shortly after Fantastic went on market
about l986, I think.

The light and vent combination is an
Airstream monstrosity IMHO.  I have
known one person who replaced the
lights with fluorescent fixtures in a location away from/next to the
vent and
then used a conventional vent.  Airstream
uses the Hammond vent which is (so far
as I know) the only one which will tip up
one end of the vent, and then bring up the
other end so that the vent cover is horizontal.  It is then, as it nears
horizontal, that the fan comes on.  If you
are going to North Dallas RV, get them
to advise you on various ways of handling
your problem.  If you decide on fluorescent fixtures, the Hammond Vent
is still an excellent choice.  Maxxair has
recently come out with an oversize
vent cover-cover  (one that puts a lexan
cover over the entire vent and standard
cover) made especially for the Hammond
Airstream vents.

Your last name, I see, is Gearhart. Did you or some of your family live
